Local 1004 is one of British Columbia’s oldest public employees’ unions and joined CUPE in 1966. Written records show the local representing Vancouver’s municipal workers as early as 1911.
Local 1004 is a multi-sector composite local holding agreements for: the outside workers of the City of Vancouver and of the Board of Parks and Recreation (including Lifeguards employed on city beaches), employees of the Pacific National Exhibition Board (including Playland), Parking Corporation of Vancouver, Downtown Eastside Housing and Residents Association, Portland Hotel Society, Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of BC (College Faculty and Staff Associations throughout BC including British Columbia Institute of Technology), and Co-Development Canada (including Cafe Etico). The local comprises of 2000 members with higher seasonal representation during the operation of Playland and PNE fairtime.
